[UTL-READ.ME] July 30, 1989
Dear fellow SYSOP,
This is the read me file for the utilities distributed with
RBBS-PC version 17.2B. It should be a part of RBBS-UTL.ZIP,
containing the following files:
MU-PURGE.ZIP Two fine utilities for managing messages and users.
Has many advantages over the similar functions built into
RBBS-PC and CONFIG.
RCFG172A.ZIP Utility for converting a configuration DEF file
from any version of RBBS from 14.1D - 17.1D to
the 17.2A format.
(Note: the 17.2B format is identical to 17.2A)
This file is part of a larger set of files and should not
normally be distributed alone.
RBBS-PC Version CPC17-2B is distributed via three mandatory and four
optional standard "ZIP" files. Two sets of merges are available but
not automatically distributed.
File Name Description
(Mandatory)
RBBS-DOC.ZIP Documentation for RBBS-PC
RBBS-EXE.ZIP Executable files.
RBBS-TXT.ZIP System text files used by RBBS-PC.
(Optional)
RBBS-BAS.ZIP BASIC Source code for RBBS-PC.
RBBS-ASM.ZIP RBBS-PC assembly language source code.
RBBS-EXT.ZIP External protocol drivers
Same as distributed for CPC16-1A, CPC17-1x
RBBS-UTL.ZIP Miscellaneous RBBS-PC utilities.
(Not distributed routinely but available)
RBBS-LIT.ZIP Merges to reduce size of RBBS-PC.EXE.
RBBSSEXE.ZIP RBBS-PC.EXE. Smaller, faster, minimal debugging.
RBBS-MRG.ZIP Merges to upgrade from 17.2A and recompile
Simply uncompress the first three files and follow the instruction in the
RBBS-PC documentation entitled, "Installing RBBS-PC for the First Time."
For those who have never operated an electronic bulletin board before,
we suggest getting Bantam Books' "The Complete Electronic Bulletin Board
Starter Kit" by Charles Bowen and David Peyton (ISBN 0-553-34552-4).
RBBS-PC's documentation is only a "reference" and is not nearly as good
a learning guide for new SYSOP's. However, the book only covers RBBS-PC
version 15.1C, and therefore does not cover new features. Version 17.2B
is downward compatible with the system files of 15.1C.
Enjoy
